Direct plougher and portable restoration.

David has been working on the RSJ direct ploughing engine boiler.

For the 'team' who are waiting for her to be home - here are some photos. It won't be long now . . .just 53 tubes!

Only 50 crown stays . . .

One done - 49 more . .  .

Tubeplate with doubler fitted.

Just one or two stays . . .I think the count is actually just under 400 including 50 crown stays.

Happy man !

Firebox and new foundation ring.

Here is her firebox.

And here the inside. Very interesting design on the crown.

On arrival in the workshop - all clean (thank you!) with all her fittings removed.

There is an additional section of barrell to fit on the front which makes her even longer.

Most recent photo is first - portable restoration.

The portable boiler work is all completed . Smokebox and new door ring are ready to fit.

A complate new set of mudlid doors have been cast with new studs and bridges too.

The axle assemblies and crank assembly arrived for the next stage after boiler work.

The engine now led on its' side awaiting tube fitting.

A few rivets in.

The tubeplate having the doubler plate rivetted to it.

The fitted box with the stay holes and door ring holes being drilled.

The box for the portable is done now. This shows the girder stays on top of the new box. The original ones have been used with new bolts and nuts to hold them on. You can see we are marking out to cut the tube holes.

Outer with z-ring awaiting the next stage now. Old firebox can be seen in the background. The new one is the next thing.

A section had to be cut away in the throat plate. This is the new section part way through fitting.

This is the new lap seam barrell - now with the pads and front perch bracket being fitted.
